So I watched the trailer for the upcoming Mortal Kombat II movie, and it looks fantastic. I can aay this looks a lot better than the last one for sure. The inclusion of Johnny Cage and being set in the Outworld makes me want to pay to watch at the theater when it releases.

Another videogame movie I'm not too sure about is the upcoming Street Fighter. So far, it tells a sypnosis about Chun Li talking Ryu and Ken into getting involved in the tournament, which gives me a messy vibe about it. I'll watch it though, being I've watched the last two live action adaptations so why not go for the third one? My expectations about a good live action version are already low enough after watching Legend of Chun Li.

I am also giving the new He-Man movie a chance. Battlecat better look awesome.

During my hiatus from Dreamwidth, I got to watch Night Of The Zoopocalypse, which was a fun, family take on the overused zombie trope. I also watched The Bad Guys 2, which was OK, but that ending made me ponder if the third movie will be able to connect with the previous two, considering its following the books in that retrospect. Guess we'll see.

And saw Zootopia 2, which while it was good as well, these "discrimination" tropes they're using are becoming a bit repetitive. I agree that it did contribute to the overall lore of their world however.

That's all I have to say for now.

I am very sorry to share that Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the age of 75.

His family confirmed that he died in Santa Barbara, California, due to complications from a stroke.
He is widely remembered for his iconic role as Shang Tsung in the 1995 Mortal Kombat film.

Besides Mortal Kombat 11, his work as Shang Tsung in the Mortal Kombat franchise included:

Mortal Kombat: Onslaught **(2023): He lent his voice and likeness to the character in this mobile RPG.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy **(2013): He reprised the role in this web series.
Other roles he played were:

The Last Emperor (1987) as Chang
Licence to Kill (1989) as Kwang (a James Bond film)
Showdown in Little Tokyo (1991) as Funekei Yoshida
Rising Sun (1993) as Eddie Sakamura
The Phantom (1996) as The Great Kabai Sengh
Snow Falling on Cedars (1999) as Zenhichi Miyamoto
Pearl Harbor (2001) as Commander Minoru Genda
Planet of the Apes (2001) as Krull
Memoirs of a Geisha (2005) as The Baron
Tekken (2009) as Heihachi Mishima
47 Ronin (2013) as Shogun Tsunayoshi

I had found out this yesterday, and he will surely be missed. Rest in peace.

And it wasn't that bad, really.

It was entertaining really. I treated the parody as a spiritual successor to Who Framed Roger Rabbit from the rabbit's cameo to the DIP bottle among the torture items Sweet Pete had with him. I know that many would see this as an "easter egg" spotting game, but seeing it within the story context was nice overall. I think it was a great decision NOT making it an actual movie reboot overall.

...not at the cost of other cultures and ethnicities. Makes me feel like you would change the race/ethnicity of a character in a reboot or movie adaptation of an established IP just to pander to something that isn't exactly a positive look into diversity itself, and more like gaining profits from the viewers who would buy into such pretentious actions.

To me, it makes every other reboot, remake, or adaptation seem less enjoyable and pretentious on itself, especially if said shows/movies are from old ones which I enjoyed prior.

And I'm not against diversity overall. I'm also part of a minority in the US, so of course I am very interested and invested into adding different people and nationalities into such things. But as stated, not when the reason behind it feels like petty pandering just to extract as much money as the entertainment industry wishes to collect, rather than taking steps into making their projects truly diverse.

My two cents.

Before I watched it, I had this feeling the 4th entry on this movie series was not going to be all that spectacular. Pretty much how I felt before watching the third one.

Unlike the third movie however, part 4 felt the part of my expectations and then some. Being completely unremarkable in every aspect of the meaning and as predictable as you may expect from the beginning of the film. The new villain Chameleon had an inkling of interest but it was completely wasted on making her a cookie cutter of every other villain in an animated movie, and the new protagonist Zhen the fox is spectacularly uninteresting.

It didn't help that her voice actor, Awkafina, sounded mostly hushed during the entire thing, even when she makes the character scream and grunt during some scenes. I suspect even she found that character as bland as I had. The rest of the cast within the movie make a cameo appearance at the end of the movie without any lines spoken, my opinion being Dreamworks just didn't want to bother to ask its stellar cast to resume their roles, even though they could had hired someone less expensive to fill in that being the case.

All in all the movie itself is quite boring. I had the endurance to go through it in order to watch this unnecessary continuation of the entire thing. If you can even refer to this movie as that.

I can only state I was never so entertained by any other movie Marvel or otherwise as I was with this film. It felt like it was straight out of a comic book limited series (of which I own a few with said titular characters I might add,) and it simply brightened my day watching it.

I really wish I could say the same about the likes of Thunderbolts*, but sadly that can't ever be the case. Maybe this might just be the swang song of Marvel movies getting a positive attention from me in a long while, but I am getting ahead of myself quite frankly.

However if there's one superhero movie you want to watch for the time being, make this one. You'll thank me for it.

Well, I will state that for a while now, Pixar has been teetering into a nosedive but managed to stay on the rope long enough to deliver a few good movies despite others being just sequels that serve as their sole lifeline being that nowadays they're nervous on creating new, original films.

In Elio's case, seems that is not doing so good by far in money revenue, then again I could see from far away this movie was not going to become anything special as many of previous films the company had released.

Simply put, Elio is giving me the same vibes as The Good Dinosaur. Its trying but it can't get there.

I read an article where Pixar admits that nowadays they're conflicting with coming something original while endless sequels to movies long past seems the norm for them.

And that makes me sad.

Ever since I saw them going for the sequel route beginning with Toy Story 2, I began feeling this pit in my stomach, as if foreshadowing where all was going being that Pixar was mostly known for its one time movies with strong messages, likeable characters, and superb story telling where a sequel didn't seem necessary being that the movie itself was more than enough to fulfill your fancy.

But now I see that era is at end and the mouse simply cares more about revenue than enlightenment.

With another Toy Story sequel showing up I have less and less hopes for this movie company. But I guess that is what must come to pass.

As sad as that is.

And it was...alright. I know I was more enthusiastic about it being its named after the Marvel comics title whose group was a favorite of mine and the movie includes characters like USAgent who is also a cult favorite of mine being such an anti-hero with the coolest Captain America variant costume, along with Sentry who was a surprising addition, but after watching it I felt a bit indifferent for the most part.

I guess I'm finally getting burnout from all these comic superhero movies, and Marvel seems to just copy and paste the "comedic schtick" since the Avengers movie eons ago, which is running a tad dry with every entry. Not to mention it tries pretty hard to be a The Suicide Squad equivalent here, as if anyone who ever watched it hasn't noticed.

However it did had its moments, and Sentry as the main villain was interesting. Liked the weasely Congress person acting it up as well all the way playing for her own profit. As politicians often do in the real world.

But most of the film just flew by me sincerely. Kinda wished they would had sticked with the comic a whole lot more and have THE actual Thunderbolts here, but I can imagine it would not had worked. I mean, Zemo is dead in that "universe" for starters.

Do I wish for a sequel or spinoff from here? No, not really. I bet however Disney is already prodding Marvel to do so however. That mouse is greedy.

I'm still not watching "Brave New World" though. Even with Red Hulk briefly appearing on it wouldn't get my interest
